THE STORY BEHIND OUR SHEABUTTER: HOW YOUR PURCHASE EMPOWERS WOMEN IN NORTHERN GHANA
Sheabutter has been used for generations to help Ghanaian women protect their skin from the dry Saharan winds. We’ve been working hand in hand with women coops in Northern Ghana who use traditional techniques handed down from the 14th century to handcraft the sheabutter used in formulating all our products.
Curves and Brushes empowers hundreds of women in Northern Ghana by providing the opportunity to earn a living by harvesting, producing, and supplying sheabutter for further processing. By providing mothers and young women with living wages and ready market, Curves and Brushes helps to eliminate the area’s most serious issues, from rural-urban migration of unemployed youths to childhood malnutrition and teenage pregnancies.
The world is slowly discovering the healing properties of sheabutter and this has made it the ultimate ingredient in skin-care products across the world.
However, with new demand comes new challenges such as competition from bigger companies, Faster, machine-run shea processing plants making it difficult for small-scale shea women co-ops to keep up.
Without these industrious women, the beautiful formulas we create to transform your skin would not be possible. Our vision at Curves and Brushes is to get these women benefitting from their hard work by helping them sell beyond their village and ultimately, building a facility to help streamline and scale the production process whilst conserving our tradition.
By investing in your skin by using our natural African skincare products, you also support the communities that provide us with the most nourishing elements of nature as well as the women, children and communities who need our help.
